Alexey Navalny has died. This is a tragedy. But we won’t let it paralyze us. We’re furious. And we’ll remember this day in great detail — to keep this fury alive within us.

Responsibility for Navalny’s death lies with the man who has declared himself president of Russia. Vladimir Putin killed Navalny.

Navalny changed Russia and changed us all. He helped us find the faith we’ll need to survive the rule of those who took control of Russia — and to destroy whatever will remain of them.

Our faith is in the future. Navalny’s faith was in the future. That future depends only on us — on what we’ve done, what we’re doing, and what we do next.

Navalny lived as a hero and died as a hero. He showed that even people with no power can transform the world.

Navalny laughed in the face of evil and never despaired. And he would certainly burst into laughter reading this eulogy.

Thank you, Alexey.

The battle between good and indifference is not over yet.

Meduza sends its condolences to Alexey’s wife Yulia, his children Dasha and Zakhar, his brother Oleg, his parents Lyudmila and Anatoly, and all of Alexey’s loved ones, associates, and friends. Our hearts are with you.
