Russian Security Council deputy chairman says U.S. presidential election ‘changes nothing’ for Moscow

In a Telegram post devoted to the upcoming presidential election in the United States, Russian National Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev argued that the contest “won’t change anything for Russia” because President Kamala Harris would be under the control of a “synod” of key advisers and President Trump risks ending up assassinated “like JFK” if he challenges the American mainstream. “A worn-out Trump, spouting clichés like ‘I’ll make a deal’ and ‘I have great relationships with…,’ will also have to follow all the system’s rules. He won’t be able to stop the war. Not in a day. Not in three days. Not in three months.”

“The only thing that matters for Russia,” wrote Medvedev, is “how much cash the new POTUS hammers out for a far-flung foreign war, for America’s own military-industrial complex and for the Banderite scum [sic] to embezzle.”

Since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Medvedev has shed his once-liberal public persona and become one of Russia’s most outspoken bigots and war hawks.
